Summer Vacations to Acapulco Beaches

Your Acapulco vacations on the beach are sure to be a memorable one. Pie de la Questa is the most famous sunset beach in Acapulco — bask under the sun until it sets while gorging on scrumptious taco and gulping down cold margaritas on any beachfront restaurant or cafe. Caleta and Caletilla beaches are other favorites. Perfect for little children because of their gentle waves, these beaches are naturally protected by Roqueta Island. Condesa beach, located in the center of the Golden Zone, is a hub for tourist and commercial activity ideal for those with older children and teens. Waves on this beach are a little higher — perfect for body boarding. Swim at Puerto Marques, a large bay with spectacular views of tropical-vegetation-covered mountains, or ride horses along the beach of Barra Vieja and feel the wind blow on your face as you tread along.

Acapulco vacations are more than just basking under the sun and relaxing on beaches — you can play golf or go fishing. The best season to go to Acapulco is during the spring and winter. These are the best times for spotting yellowfin tuna and the largest marlins because the water is cooler. If you re up for sharks, there are many at any given time, but easiest to locate from July to December, when weeds and floating material are washed into the sea by the tropical rains. If you don’t want to get your feet wet, you can grab your clubs and head to the gorgeous Mayan Palace Golf Course. It is one of the best courses in the area, surrounded by tall palm trees and beautiful lakes. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, your skills will be challenged by these 18 holes of complicated greens and numerous dunes. Another popular green is the 18-hole Acapulco Princess Golf Course which was named to the Top 25 Golf Resorts of Golf Digest.

Acapulco Vacations to Fort San Diego

Acapulco vacations should always include a stop at El Fuerte de San Diego, or Fort San Diego. Acapulco was a very important region to the Spanish empire in the 17th century, so much so that it was even called “New Spain”. That’s because Acapulco was an integral part of the trade routes to the Philippines, which was also a Spanish colony at that time. To protect the city against pirate attacks, El Fuerte de San Diego was built in 1616. In 1776, a strong earthquake hit the city that caused damage to the fort’s original structure; the pentagon-shaped building with a moat that was constructed to replace it still exists on the site. Part of the fortress has been turned into a museum, the Museo Historico de Acapulco, where visitors learn about ancient relics such as porcelain vases, baskets, and ceramics. Beautiful kimonos, exquisitely embroidered silk tapestries, and ornamental shells and beads are also open for public viewing. A few doors down and also worth a visit is the Casa de Mascaras, a delightful museum of over 500 ceremonial masks.
